Summary and Description
The Center for Cognitive Studies in Medicine and Public Health (CSMPH) is considering applications for a postdoctoral position in the area of complexity and medical errors. CSMPH is a newly formed interdisciplinary research Center that will have membership of faculty from various disciplines and programs in the health, biomedical sciences, cognitive and social sciences. A candidate is sought with a research focus on modeling of dynamical processes and social network structure in human or engineered systems, as well as research related to the characterization of the cognitive mechanisms that underlie errors related to critical care environments. The ideal candidate will have expertise in developing cognitive models that address the complexity of clinical work environments.
The candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in research activities working directly with Dr. Patel. The project will relate to cognition, education and learning in clinical environment in the context of medical errors. The candidate will work in various phases of research including data collection, communication and organization of participants, literature review and data analysis. The position is well suited for someone who is interested in both the administrative side of research and in engaging in “hands on” research activities in clinical environment.

The Research Coordinator will coordinate, and manage the administrative activities related to the multiple funded research projects at the Center for Cognitive Studies in Medicine and Public Health at the New York Academy of Medicine Provide administrative support to the Center‘s director, for day-to-day activities, including scheduling meetings, filing documents, as well as completing and filing expense reports.
Qualifications
Social Science research experience.
Excellent computer skills.
Strong writing as well as excellent organizational and oral communication skills.
Experience
Master’s degree is preferred, but candidates with a Bachelor or equivalent in psychology (preferable with some background in cognition), educational psychology, medical/ public health or related disciplines will be strongly considered.
