Summary and Description
The New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM) is seeking a highly motivated individual to work on its policy initiatives in the areas of healthy aging, health disparities, and/or disease prevention.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Senior Policy Associate will:
• Conduct research and analysis, and develop white papers, policy briefings, and other compelling documents for diverse audiences, including elected and administrative officials, media, and other advocates.
• Develop strategies to achieve policy objectives and advise senior leadership as needed on NYC, NYS, and federal health policy issues.
• Staff high-level committees and work groups. Plan and implement meetings, and conferences that engage multiple sectors and provide opportunities for working on solutions to public health problems.
• Track and analyze specific city, state and federal legislation, executive orders, budgets, and other policies as needed.
• Identify funding opportunities and develop funding proposals to government and private funders.
• Foster collaborative relationships with coalitions, partners, funders, and elected officials.
• Represent NYAM at community meetings, conferences, and other events.
• Supervise paid, intern and volunteer staff.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
This is a Senior position requiring a minimum of 15 years experience in health policy advocacy, analysis, or research. Experience may include public health/epidemiology, health services research, or other relevant aspects of public policy. Previous experience should include staffing high-level coalitions and committees. Candidates should possess exceptional analytical, communication and writing abilities and strong management skills. They should demonstrate a commitment to political and social change for health improvement. Familiarity with New York City and New York State government and civil society required. Must have the ability to work independently, manage concurrent demands and multiple projects, and to meet scheduled deadlines. Must enjoy multi-tasking and a fast-paced environment.
Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
Experience
Masters or PhD preferred.
