Joanna Abraham, PhD joined the staff of NYAM in 2012 as an Associate Research Scientist at the Center for Cognitive Studies in Medicine and Public Health. Her broad research interests include examination of hospital workflows with respect to cognitive complexity and errors in healthcare.
Her current and recent research focuses on the analysis of: (a) communication behavioral patterns of patient care teams, (b) coordination of distributed clinician activities to manage information and task interdependencies, (c) role of health information technology in decision making, and (e) complexity and errors during care transitions among different health related settings.
Her research is published in a number of journals including Journal of Biomedical Informatics (JBI), International Journal of Biomedical Informatics (IJMI), and ACM Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) and proceedings of American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA). Before joining NYAM, she was an AHRQ post-doctoral research fellow at the School of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Texas Health Science Center. She received her PhD in Information Sciences and Technology from Pennsylvania State University in 2009.
