Staff Profile: Monica Chierici

Monica Chierici, MPA
Policy Associate, Health Policy

Monica Chierici joined the Division of Health Policy in August 2010 as Policy Associate with DASH-NY, New York State’s Obesity Prevention Policy Center. She brings a diverse array of experience, including coalition building, advocacy, and youth and community development, as well as knowledge of food systems, the built environment, and social determinants of health. Monica received her MPA from Baruch College by way of the National Urban Fellows program and previously coordinated the NYC Food and Fitness Partnership, a W.K. Kellogg-funded initiative convened by the NYC Office of the Mayor, NYC Department of Health and City Harvest. Monica also worked at Columbia University’s Institute on Medicine as a Profession, a program aimed at increasing advocacy as a core component of medical practice. As a Nutrition Policy Fellow in the Leadership Education in Adolescent Health Program, she focused on school food and academic performance while also taking coursework in Public Health and Epidemiology at the University of Rochester. Monica started her career working to increase the college-going rate of first generation and at-risk youth in San Francisco and the Bronx. She received a BA in Social Thought and Political Economy from UMass Amherst and has a long-standing passion for social justice, real food, and holistic healing.
