Maysoun Freij, PhD is a Senior Evaluator and Researcher in the Center for Evaluation and Applied Research at The New York Academy of Medicine. She holds an MPH and a PhD in cultural anthropology from Emory University and a BA in political science from the University of Chicago. Prior to joining NYAM, Maysoun worked at the New York Immigration Coalition on national and state-level health policy, health care delivery and insurance issues. She has also worked at several other public health institutions, including the CDC and the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center. At NYAM, Maysoun has been the lead evaluator for the Multi-Regional Model to Increase the Number of Baccalaureate Nurses in the U.S. (RIBN). She is currently an evaluator for two obesity prevention programs including the New York City wide Strategic Alliance for Health and statewide DASH-NY. She is also engaged in the multi-site evaluation of the Healthy Communities through Healthy Food Initiative which aims to increase the civic engagement of older adults and improve access to healthy food in low income communities. Prior work at NYAM includes a study on barriers and facilitators to aging in place among diverse NY populations, findings from which have been published in the Journal for Gerontolocial Social Work (Volume 54, Issue 7, 2011).
