Staff Profile: Ana Garcia

Ana Garcia, MPA
Deputy Director, Health Policy

Ana Garcia has 15 years experience supporting and advocating for community-based approaches to health at the national, state, and local levels. Her experience includes work with a variety of nonprofit and government organizations, including the Vermont Department of Health, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Union of Palestinian Medical Relief Committees in the West Bank. Her focus areas for NYAM include chronic disease prevention, enhancing the public health infrastructure, promoting healthy aging, and addressing health disparities. Project responsibilities include supporting the New York State Prevention Agenda (a statewide effort with the NYS Department of Health to reduce disparities and create savings to the health care system through community planning for health), helping advance NYAM's public health approach to drug policy, and supporting Age-Friendly NYC. She is co-director of DASH-NY, New York's Statewide Obesity Prevention Policy Center: Designing a Strong and Healthy New York. She holds an MPA from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University and a BA from the University of Notre Dame.
