Freya Kaufman is Senior Program Officer of The New York Academy of Medicine Office of School Health Programs. In this position, she is responsible for planning, developing and coordinating programs and workshops for the New York City public schools. Ms. Kaufman came to the Academy in 1979 to begin a demonstration project using the Growing Healthy curriculum, which was created under a contract with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Lung Association, in 25 elementary schools.
Ms. Kaufman has a Masters degree in Health Education, and is also a New York State Certified Teacher in Elementary Education, General Science and Health Education. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist credentialed by the National Commission for Health Education. She has made presentations locally and at national conferences, including the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the American School Health Association.
Active in the field of education and health education for 25 years, Ms. Kaufman has provided leadership both professionally and as a volunteer in her local community. She is an adjunct Assistant Professor in Health Education for Hofstra University and has served as a consultant and lecturer.
