Assistant Director of Development
Office of Development and Communications

Summary

Responsible for the management of a comprehensive major gifts program for the Academy’s Office of Development and Communications. Professionals with a minimum of five years experience in cultivating major donors and managing fundraising events are invited to apply.

Chief Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with trustees in collaboration with the Director to develop and carry out major campaigns
  • Identifies potential major individual, corporate and foundation donors and special event leadership
  • Develops new cultivation programs for major donors
  • Coordinates and manages all activities related to the production of fundraising events, including an annual fundraising gala and other major donor cultivation events including special dinners and receptions
  • Manages annual giving program, including drafting appeal letters and related materials
  • Collaborates with Director on solicitation and cultivations strategies to increase number and amount of annual and major gifts
  • Drafts general operating and special projects proposals aimed at foundations and corporations
  • Manages acknowledgement, tracking, analysis and follow-up of major donors and event attendees in development database
  • Manages event budgets and maintains income and expense reports
  • Assists in administering a planned giving program

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of five years experience in non-profit fundraising required
  • Previous experience managing fundraising and cultivation events
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to accuracy and detail
  • Superlative writing and editing skills
  • Ability to be flexible, operate independently and function in high-stress situation
  • Strong computer skills including fundraising database experience
