Center for Urban Epidemiologic Studies
Background
The New York Academy of Medicine is a research intensive, private sector institution focused on the health of urban populations. It has more than 170 staff, generating a broad array of largely grant-supported research programs.
Summary
The Academy undertakes research in a number of fields: multidisciplinary population-based research on urban health with an emphasis on the social determinants of health; interventional research including behavioral intervention research at the individual level; program evaluation at the community level; and community based participatory action research. The Academy is currently broadening its research base to encompass chronic disease, mental health and aging, and is looking to recruit an additional senior researcher as part of this expansion.
Education and Experience
Senior Investigator requirements include either an M.D. and an M.P.H, or a Ph.D. in epidemiology. Preferred candidates will have several years of research experience after the doctorate, and a record of successful funding and scholarly publications. However, we would also be also interested in discussing recruitment options with less experienced, but highly promising, researchers. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in aging; mental health; hierarchical or spatial modeling; or research into neighborhood level determinants of health. We would also consider an applicant with experience in genetic epidemiology who appreciates the potential application of this to population level research. Faculty affiliations are available. Preference for English/Spanish language proficiency. Salary and benefits are competitive.
