The New York Academy of Medicine is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that positively transforms the health of people living in cities. We approach our mission through research, education, community engagement and policy advocacy. Our special focus is New York, our home, but our work is national and global in scope and importance. We are a universally respected and responsive source of knowledge and a trusted partner for action with individuals and organizations who share our purpose.
The Pharm-Link research study is an intervention study among NYC pharmacies who are registered through the Expanded Syringe Access Program (ESAP), a public health program targeted to injection drug users (IDUs) which allows pharmacies to sell syringes without a prescription. Pharm-Link research staff train pharmacy staff to provide additional support services to IDU syringe customers including social, medical, and HIV testing referrals. Pharm-Link research staff will also interview IDU syringe customers within the pharmacy, and for selected pharmacies, HIV counseling and testing will be performed.
