Lorraine A. LaHuta is Vice President for Development and Communications at The New York Academy of Medicine. She leads the fundraising and communications efforts including media relations, the Academy website and newsletter.
Prior to joining the Academy in 1998, Ms. LaHuta was the Executive Associate in the Office of the Corporate Secretary of Carnegie Corporation of New York. As Program Coordinator for Seaman's Church Institute from 1987-1988, she implemented a nationwide AIDS Information for Seafarers program.
Ms. LaHuta is a Vestryman and Clerk of Trinity Church Wall Street. She has served on the Vestry from 1987-1994, 1995-2002 and from 2003 to the present. For three years, she chaired the Tercentennial Steering Committee of the parish, which was responsible for the national landmark church's
yearlong 300th anniversary celebration culminating in May 1998. She is also on the board of St. Margaret's House, a multi-cultural congregate living facility for elderly and handicapped individuals. Previously, she served on the board of the HIV Law Project, as a director of the Frederic Fleming House, a residence for formerly homeless individuals, and of John Heuss House, a drop-in-center for mentally ill homeless.
Ms. LaHuta received a B.A. and M.A. in Psychology from Hunter College of the City University of New York. She is married to Leff LaHuta; they have two sons, Evan and David, and a granddaughter.
