Michele Calvo’s work at the Academy promotes a public health approach to drug use and other mental, emotional, and behavioral health issues. Some of her current projects include: conducting community consultations and research related to supervised injection facilities (SIFs); and evaluating the impact of co-located health care and harm reduction services on hospital and ER visits in a South Bronx syringe exchange. Michele holds an MPH degree with concentrations in Epidemiology and Urban Health Administration from Rutgers University and a BA from the College of New Jersey. Her MPH fieldwork research aimed to expand access to harm reduction services through analysis of the first community-based survey of harm reduction program participants in NYC.
