The second edition of this popular award-winning book provides a broad overview of health I.T. in the era of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (ARRA/HITECH). The ambulatory electronic health record, clinical decision support, personal health records, identity management, health information exchange, and other core technologies are described by subject matter experts from the frontlines of health care. A variety of case studies include the patient-centered medical home by a solo practitioner, lessons learned on how health IT is transforming healthcare at a rural health network, a small primary care practice, a fully integrated healthcare system with 2,000-plus affiliated physicians, and two hospitals that have achieved Stage 7 on the HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model.
