Location: The New York Academy of Medicine, 1216 Fifth Avenue at 103rd Street, New York, NY 10029
Dr. Stephen Ross will describe the process of integrating addiction education, screening and treatment into the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department at Bellevue Hospital over the last 5 years. Frustrated by seeing patients with addiction on average in their 40s at Bellevue, he wanted to do something earlier in the illness trajectory, precisely during the peak risk period for addiction, 18-25 years old, and even earlier when the risk first presents in the early teens to intervene and possibly prevent addictive disorders in the vulnerable population of psychiatrically ill patients at Bellevue Hospital.
