The Social Work Section is pleased to invite you to view AMOUR. The film won the 2013 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and has been widely acclaimed worldwide Georges and Anne are an octogenarian couple living in Paris. They are cultivated, retired music teachers. Their daughter, also a musician, lives in Britain with her family. One day, Anne has a stroke, and the couple's bond of love is severely tested.
Guest: Daniel Kaplan, PhD, LICSW, LMSW, CSW-G, QDCS
Following the film Dr. Daniel Kaplan, a clinical social worker with expertise in mental and neurological disorders, will facilitate a discussion. Dr. Kaplan earned his doctorate at Columbia University School of Social Work and now has an NIMH-funded postdoctoral research fellowship at the Institute for Geriatric Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College. His research focuses on optimizing care services for older adults with neurocognitive disorder. As the former National Director of Social Services for the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, he supervised a team of social work clinicians, designed and managed service programs, and worked closely with program innovators from around the United States. Dr. Kaplan recently developed and teaches a course, entitled “Social Work Practice with Individuals with Dementia and their Families,” for graduate social work students at Columbia University. He holds clinical social work licensure in New York and Massachusetts, as well as an NASW certification in advanced gerontological clinical social work.
