The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with The New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM), Emblem Health, Metro Plus, Health First, and CitiCare, will present the 4th Annual National Urban Health Conference on Friday, April 25 through Sunday April 27, 2014. NYAM will host the conference’s opening session, Building Healthy Communities, on April 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Each student will present a poster and give an oral presentation of their original work in social work practice, research, or education in health, including physical health, mental health, and public health.

The care for Americans with a psychiatric illness is currently undergoing a crisis that affects not only those people in need of care, but the economics and effectiveness of the entire health care system . Our failure to effectively identify and treat mental illness is showing up in the violent actions of troubled adolescents, the huge economic cost in lost earnings estimated at $193 billion, the cost of maintaining large prison populations.

To mark the 70th anniversary of NYAM's LaGuardia Report, one of the nation’s first systematic studies addressing many of the myths about marijuana, the Drug Policy Alliance (DPA) and NYAM are hosting a day-and-a-half symposium to look back on the LaGuardia Report in order to inform a rich discussion of contemporary drug policy reform efforts, both nationally and in New York.

The film won the 2013 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and has been widely acclaimed worldwide Georges and Anne are an octogenarian couple living in Paris. They are cultivated, retired music teachers. Their daughter, also a musician, lives in Britain with her family. One day, Anne has a stroke, and the couple's bond of love is severely tested.
