Simon J. Hall, M.D. is Chairman, Department of Urology and Associate Professor, Departments of Urology and Gene & Cell Medicine, and Director, Barbara & Maurice Deane Prostate Health & Research Center Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He is the inaugural holder of the Kyung Hyun Kim, MD, Chair in Urology
Dr. Hall earned his medical degree from College of Physicians & Surgeons, Columbia University before receiving training at the Department of Surgery, Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Department of Urology, Boston University Medical Center, and was subsequently awarded a two-year Uro-Oncology Fellowship at the Scott Department of Urology, Baylor College of Medicine
Dr Hall’s clinical interests are primarily urologic oncology, specifically the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of prostate cancer, renal cell cancer and urothelial (transitional cell) cancer effecting the kidneys and bladder. In the area of prostate cancer he is especially interested in the use of multimodal therapy for the treatment of high risk cancer and of novel therapies in the treatment of disease recurrence. His research interests include the development of gene therapy strategies for the treatment of prostate cancer. This interest is manifest in both a bench top translation research and clinical trials of approaches explored in the laboratory. Ongoing laboratory work is focusing on the use of novel replication competent vectors to improve therapy.
Dr. Hall has received the Dr. Solomon Silver Award in Clinical Medicine, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, the Edwin Beer Award in Urology, New York Academy of Medicine and the F. Brantly Scott Award, Scott Department of Urology, Baylor College of Medicine. Author of numerous papers on gene therapy, Dr. Hall is a Section Editor of Gene Therapy/Immunotherapy, Urologic Oncology, and serves as reviewer and consultant for several other scientific journals.
