Date: June 6, 2013
Time: 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
Speaker: Emily Loose, Emily Loose Literary
Location: The New York Academy of Medicine, 1216 Fifth Avenue at 103rd Street, New York, NY 10029
Are you considering writing a book? The process of getting a book deal with a publisher can be mystifying. And it's very different depending upon whether you want an academic publisher or one for the mass public. Hear from an experienced senior editor for both major academic and general interest publishers, the ins and outs of landing the deal you want. Emily will cover:
• The art of the deal – Why are some books signed for six or seven figure advances while others are turned down by everyone?
• The proposal – Do you need to write a proposal? What comprises a good proposal?
• The agent – Should you work with an agent? What should an agent do for you? What are the terms? How can you pick a good one?
• The publisher – What do publishers want to know from you? What should you know from them?
• Q & A – What questions do you have that haven’t been addressed?
