Evidence Based Health Care: Mission of the Section

The NYAM Fellows on Evidence Based Health Care: Mission of the Section

The mission of the Section on Evidence Based Health Care is to enhance the health of the public and the quality of life of individuals through scientifically sound, cost-effective, and individualized care.   The NYAM Section on Evidence Based Health Care (SEBHC) was established in 2009.  It grew out of 13 years of educational efforts at the Academy interfaced with the leading centers of development of evidence-based practice in the 1990’s, notably the McMaster University centered “Evidence Based Medicine Working Group”.   Starting with pilot efforts in 1996, the leaders of evidence based practice initiatives at NYAM included practitioners from a diversity of specialties who taught regularly at the McMaster international workshop series, co-authored chapters in the JAMA “Users’ Guides to the Medical Literature” manual, and collaborated with the McMaster team on important journalistic and educational projects.
