Basics of Searching STATRef

STATRef allows you to search either an individual book, selected books, or all books. STATRef permits the use of Boolean operators, AND OR NEAR or ADJ, as well as allowing you to select how NEAR (how many words apart) words should be.

Searching the Entire Database

To search the entire database, put in a word or phrase. Select the Boolean operator which you want to connect the word(s). STATRef will then display a list of the chapters that contain your search word. Click on the one that seems most appropriate. STATRef will display the full-text of the chapter you selected, hypertext links to images and tables, and the references to that chapter.

Searching One "Textbook"

If you decide to select one textbook, just click on the relevant textbook. To select only certain books, hold down the use CTR and ENTER simultaneously while you click on the books you are interested in searching. Then, follow the same instructions for searching the database as described above. As before, you will see displayed chapters from books that contain the terms you selected. Click on the appropriate subsection to view the full-text of that portion of the "book".

Special Features

A link to Stedman's Medical Dictionary remains at the top of the screen, to allow you to check the meaning of any words with which you are not familar. Also included in the menu bar at the top of the screen is a link to the Tables of contents for all the books included in the database, and a help button.
