The Brock Lecture, Award and Visiting Professorship in Pediatrics was established by Millie and Richard Brock in 1995 on the 100th anniversary of The Academy’s Section on Pediatrics to sponsor a nationally recognized leader in pediatrics to engage in a one to two day visiting professorship at a New York-area pediatrics training program, to deliver the annual Brock Lecture, and to receive the Brock Award for distinguished contributions to pediatrics.
The one to two day visiting professorship to a New York area pediatric training program should be part of a program which include a grand rounds lecture as well as teaching interactions with medical students, pediatric residents, fellows, and members of the attending staff.
The Brock Lecture held at the Academy must address issues concerned with providing care for underserved children. Suggested topics for discussion include, but are not restricted to: childhood nutrition, HIV and AIDS, substance abuse, child abuse, asthma, violence, and environmental issues such as lead poisoning.
The Brock program includes an honorarium of $1,000 and all expenses for travel, lodging, and meals.
Letters of nomination, including an outline of the proposed plan for the visit and the topic for the Brock Lecture, as well as the curriculum vitae of the nominee, should be forwarded via email to brock@nyam.org by April 1, 2012.

Jean L. Bolognia, MD, Professor of Dermatology, Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs, and Director of the Pigmented Lesion Clinic at Yale University School of Medicine, delivered the 2013 Howard Fox Memorial Lecture on April 26, 2013 at NYAM. The subject of her lecture, which was sponsored by the NYAM Section on Dermatology, was Signature Nevi. Patients who have an increased number of moles tend to be consistent in the type of mole they produce, and the repetitive type for a given patient is that patient’s signature nevus. Patients with numerous melanocytic nevi, i.e., those who are moley, often produce a particular type of nevus, a so-called signature nevus.
