Office of Policy Development
Testifying before the New York City Council on policy initiatives is among the important activities of the Academy Office of Policy Development.
The Office of Policy Development seeks to advance the Academy’s role as an expert resource for policy-makers. It serves to link the Academy’s initiatives, including its research findings, with policy-makers at all levels of government. An independent, research-focused organization, the Academy is not affiliated with any academic institution, health care institution or provider groups, and it does not represent or advocate on behalf of any interest groups. It is thus particularly qualified to provide neutral, non-partisan, evidence-based analysis of and expertise on issues related to health and health policy.

The Office identifies opportunities to translate the Academy’s research into public policy and, more broadly, to promote evidence-based approaches to policy-making. The Office also facilitates policy-makers’ access to the Academy as a resource for information and consultation, responding to inquiries from legislative and agency officials and staff.

The Office of Policy Development will produce evidence-based policy analyses of current and emerging issues, focusing on areas of Academy expertise and posing policy options for consideration by legislators and government agency officials. In addition, the Office seeks to generate in-depth studies of selected health care issues through convening groups of experts to examine these issues and to identify relevant policy proposals and strategies for implementing them.
