Requesting Academy Library Materials
All requests for materials held by the Academy Library must be made via the Library's
Online Catalog. For help on requesting materials via the catalog, please contact your research liaison and/or consult our Requesting Books and Journals handout.
The Document Delivery department will guarantee at least 10 articles per day. If you require more than 10 articles in a given day, please contact the Document Delivery department to make special arrangements.
All materials ordered and filled on a daily basis will be kept in a staging
area in the Document Delivery office. If materials are not picked up by the end of the
day, they will be sent via interoffice mail. If you would like to be contacted when the article is ready for pick-up, please indicate that on your request. If you would like specialized delivery via email, kindly note that on your request.
Borrowing
Books may circulate to staff for 4 weeks, with a renewal period of an
additional 2 weeks. All books leaving the library area will be checked out to the staff member. Overdue notices will be sent to those who fail to return items promptly
Generally, journals cannot be borrowed. If you have a special situation, please let us know.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Service
Articles and books not found in the Academy Library can be provided through the Document Delivery department's interlibrary loan service. Two levels of interlibrary loan service are available:
- Rush: 3-5 working days
- Regular: 7-10 working days
To place an interlibrary loan request, contact Document Delivery, at x7362 or docdelnyam@nyam.org.
While there are no limits on the amount of interlibrary loan requests, please bear in mind that we are at the mercy of lending institutions to obtain materials and that large lists may slow down turnaround times.
When placing your requests, be sure to include full citations and, where possible, unique identifier numbers such as ISBNs, ISSNs or PubMed IDs. Incorrect and incomplete citations complicate the process of filling a request.
All interlibrary loan requests will be sent via inter-office mail, unless otherwise requested.
