Prior to coming to NYAM, Ms. Mandelbaum worked in the Rare Book Division of the New York Public Library for over 18 years. In the course of her tenure there, she curated a number of exhibits including: The First Fifty Years of Printing; Landmarks of German Literature: from the Enlightenment to the Romantics; and Seeing is Believing: Seven Hundred Years of Scientific and Medical Illustration. Before her tenure at NYPL, she worked at The Library Company in Philadelphia, and, for two years was the Assistant Curator of Rare Books at The New York Academy of Medicine.
A graduate of The City College of New York, Ms. Mandelbaum went on to do graduate work in medieval and Renaissance history at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, and studied codicology, paleography and printing at Columbia University. She also studied rare book librarianship and the history of the book in Columbia University School of Library Service.
