Requesting Materials from the Library's Stacks
The majority of the NYAM Library's collection is in a closed stacks area. This means that patrons do not have direct access to materials for browsing and retrieval.
When visiting the Library, patrons may request materials from the closed stacks via the Library's Online Catalog. Staff will retrieve requested items and bring it to a patron's seat in the Main Reading Room.
Please note:
- Retrieval is available Tuesday-Friday from 10:00am – 4:45pm .
- Patrons may request up to 10 items per day from the closed stacks area.
- There is an average wait of 20 minutes to receive items.
- Requests may be made on-site, by email or by telephone via a reference librarian at (212) 822-7315. Requested materials will only be held at the information desk for 24 hours. Photocopies may not be requested in advance via telephone.
If you are thinking of visiting us, please view our Security Policies and Facilities information.
