Dr. Ira Rutkow discusses the extremely bleak and unadvanced state of medicine and surgery during the Civil War. Dr. Rutkow is a clinical professor of Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey as well as the author of Bleeding Blue and Gray: Civil War Surgery and the Evolution of American Medicine. The New York Academy of Medicine hosted this hour-long discussion, and there are graphic photographs shown during this program.

The New York Academy of Medicine with support from the New York State Heath Foundation released a new report, Federal Health Care Reform in New York State: A Population Health Perspective.
