On Monday, June 14, 2010, NYAM President Jo Ivey Boufford hosted the annual John Stearns Legacy Society luncheon. More than 25 guests attended the event, named in honor of John Stearns, the first president of NYAM. The event featured the induction of the Society’s newest members, Clarence E. Pearson and his wife, Laurie Norris. Ms. Norris is a global health communications specialist who is also the editor of several books on aging and urban health. Mr. Pearson, a global health consultant, is a longtime NYAM Fellow and was instrumental in helping to develop NYAM's Office of School Health Programs.

Following a formal induction presentation by Dr. Thomas Q. Morris, Chairman of the NYAM Board of Trustees, and Dr. Boufford to Mr. Pearson and Ms. Norris, the guests heard a fascinating presentation on "Global Health in Urban Settings" by David Vlahov, PhD, RN, NYAM's Senior Vice President for Research and Director of the Center for Urban Epidemiology Studies.
