DASH-NY to Partner with SUNY Albany and NYSDOH to Provide Chronic Disease Prevention Trainings

DASH-NY has partnered with the School of Public Health at SUNY Albany and the NYS Department of Health to offer community trainings in upstate New York on implementing evidence-based approaches to preventing chronic disease. The participants will include local public health stakeholders, hospitals, and community partners in Albany, Rochester, and Syracuse.

This work is a component of the New York State Prevention Agenda 2013-2017, the blueprint for state and local action to improve the health of New Yorkers.

The trainings will take place in January and February, with follow-up webinars in March, and will cover four priority strategy areas:

•    Implementation of Complete Streets
•    Community-wide systems to deliver evidence-based interventions to address chronic disease
•    Promoting breastfeeding in hospitals, primary care, and worksites
•    Promoting the adoption and use of nutrition standards

More information is available here.

“These trainings will help local communities put into action proven interventions to reduce chronic disease and reduce health disparities,” said Monica Chierici, Project Director for DASH-NY.

The Designing a Strong and Healthy New York (DASH-NY) Obesity Prevention Coalition and Policy Center was launched through support from the New York State Department of Health in April 2010. The work of DASH-NY focuses on policy, systems and environmental changes that will lead to equitable community environments where healthy eating, active living, and access to preventive healthcare services are a reality for all New Yorkers.
