Doctors Against Handgun Injury Planning Meeting

Doctors Against Handgun Injury, a program of NYAM conducted a National Planning Meeting on May 23, 2001 in Washington, DC. The coalition met to discuss the direction of the organization and the goals they wished to accomplish. Dr. James Mercy from the Centers for Disease Control and Ms. Shelly Kosack representing the Just The Facts campaign addressed the group about plans for a National Violent Death Reporting System, which the coalition supports. The event was filmed by the television program "60 Minutes" for an anticipated story on recognizing gun injury as a public health problem. Other speakers included Dr. Jeremiah Barondess, President of NYAM and Dr. Alan Fleischman, Senior Vice President of NYAM for Academic and Medical Affairs. NYAM Report - Federal Health Care Reform in New York State: A Population Health Perspective

The New York Academy of Medicine with support from the New York State Heath Foundation released a new report, Federal Health Care Reform in New York State: A Population Health Perspective.

This report identifies opportunities that build on both the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act (ACA) and New York’s ongoing efforts toward improving the health of its 19 million residents.
