Search Underway for New Senior Vice President of the Academy

NEW YORK CITY, April 16???The New York Academy of Medicine has launched a search for an exceptional candidate to fill the challenging position of Senior Vice President for Programmatic and Academic Affairs.

The Academy is a research-intensive, academically organized private sector institution. It conducts investigations, interventions, demonstration projects and educational activities that address a broad range of clinical, behavioral and community-based issues. While the broad mission of the Academy is to enhance the health of the public, it seeks to express this primarily through a focus on urban health.

This position will report to the President of the Academy, and will work in concert with the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration and with the Directors of Academy Divisions, Centers and Offices to form and conduct extensive collaborations with academic, government and private sector entities engaged in health activities, as well as with the corporate and philanthropic communities.

The Senior Vice President for Programmatic and Academic Affairs will be responsible for planning, developing, coordinating and facilitating Academy programs, and will be expected to be active in creating new efforts relating to the mission of the Academy.

Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in the health sciences field, M.D. preferred, and broad senior-level experience and knowledge relevant to the agenda of the Academy, with a substantial record of accomplishment in clinical medicine and/or public health. A research background, including successful grant-writing experience, is highly desirable. Candidates should have demonstrated leadership and broad vision in the health needs of populations as well as in collaborative relationships with health professionals and professional organizations. A background in conceiving and analyzing research objectives is essential.

NYAM Report - Federal Health Care Reform in New York State: A Population Health Perspective

The New York Academy of Medicine with support from the New York State Heath Foundation released a new report, Federal Health Care Reform in New York State: A Population Health Perspective.

This report identifies opportunities that build on both the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act (ACA) and New York’s ongoing efforts toward improving the health of its 19 million residents.
