WHAT:
Immigrant Health: A Transatlantic Perspective, a symposium co-sponsored by The New York Academy of Medicine and The Royal Society of Medicine of London
This symposium will examine immigrant health issues in the United States and the United Kingdom, focusing on migration patterns as relates to the spread of infectious diseases (such as SARS and avian influenza) and to changing patterns of non-infectious diseases (like cancer, diabetes, and mental illness). Immigrants to the U.K. in recent years have come largely from India and Africa, while U.S. immigrants hail primarily from Asia and the Caribbean basin. Notable speakers from both countries will examine these patterns in the context of the contrasting U.S. and U.K. health and social support systems.

The New York Academy of Medicine with support from the New York State Heath Foundation released a new report, Federal Health Care Reform in New York State: A Population Health Perspective.
