Academy Gala to Honor Three Philanthropic Leaders Advancing Health

NEW YORK CITY, March 9, 2007—The New York Academy of Medicine will honor three exceptional leaders who have worked to improve health worldwide during its annual black-tie Gala on Wednesday, March 28, at The Pierre. This year’s honorees are Joseph M. Feczko, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Pfizer Inc, James W. Fordyce, Chairman of The Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation, and Bob Wright, Vice Chairman and Executive Officer of GE and Chairman of NBC Universal.

Joseph M. Feczko, MD, through his leadership in all aspects of Pfizer’s medical affairs, has been instrumental in shaping medical policy and engaging the global community in issues of safe and effective medicine. His efforts, and those of Pfizer’s, will be honored during the Gala.

James W. Fordyce, a philanthropic leader and distinguished figure in the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical industries, is honored for his extraordinary contributions to improving health and advancing medical research.

Bob Wright’s strategic vision transformed a broadcast network into a diversified global media company, and his passion to find a cure for autism led him to establish what is now the nation’s largest single organization devoted to this developmental disorder.

Hundreds of leaders in business, finance, healthcare, media, and medicine will convene at this, the Academy’s 2007 Award Gala, to pay tribute to the work and on-going public health contributions of these three influential leaders and of the Academy. The Gala provides critical support for the Academy’s urban health agenda that includes safeguarding children’s health, curtailing the spread of HIV/AIDS and improving care, helping consumers access reliable health information, improving the public’s ability to cope with disasters both as a community and as individuals, caring for older adults, and alleviating pediatric asthma.

The cocktail hour begins at 6:30 p.m., and dinner is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Award presentations will take place from 7:55 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., after which dinner will resume.

Founded in 1847, The New York Academy of Medicine is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit institution whose mission is to enhance the health of the public. The Academy is a leading center for urban health policy and action working to enhance the health of people living in cities worldwide through research, education, advocacy, and prevention.
