NEW YORK CITY, August 16 The New York Academy of Medicine Library will be launching a new series of free computer-based health information classes for health professionals beginning in the first week of September, in a continued effort to teach independent research skills and help professionals find quality medical information.
The Academy encourages physicians, researchers, historians, scientists, and other health professionals to take advantage of the variety of courses being offered, including classes on performing advanced searches in PubMed and on finding nursing materials using the CINAHL database.
“The purpose of our classes for professionals is to refresh their skills on resources that are being used to help their patrons and patients,” said Winifred King, Coordinator of Outreach and Education for the Academy Library.
Due to positive feedback from past attendees, the Academy Library will offer some information classes more frequently during the upcoming semester, including classes on how to navigate the National Library of Medicine’s MEDLINE database on both basic and more advanced levels. Not only will more classes increase the flexibility of attendance, but they will help to disseminate health information on topics that have become more important in the news, says King.
