NYAM's Public Health Productions (PHP) is an in-house production studio dedicated to producing creative, high-quality video and documentary productions that promote the health of the public. We offer complete production services from creative concept to high definition production to online editing. Our creative outreach campaigns have proven to be engaging, effective and far-reaching:
PHP Campaign Increases Response Rate by 187%
Our multi-media campaign promoting mammograms, created in partnership with NYC HHC, increased response rates by 187% over the previous year.
PHP 9/11 Health Campaign Increases Response Rate by 91%
Our multilingual, multi-media outreach campaign for the World Trade Center Environmental Health Center (EHC) for NYC HHC entitled “Lived there? Worked there? You deserve care” increased calls by 91%. In just the first month, more than 500 people who had been seriously ill for seven years qualified for much needed care.
PHP Produces the First SAFE PSA for National Distribution
SAFE Centers (Sexual Assault Forensic Exam) provide care for victims of rape and sexual assault. PHP created the first nationwide campaign promoting SAFE Centers with the informative tagline: “Call 911 – because rape is an emergency.”
PHP WASH Campaign Shown Throughout Southern Sudan
PHP director Amy Hart was invited to Southern Sudan to create a multilingual video series for UNICEF promoting WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene). The videos were shown in hundreds of remote villages and helped to educate tens of thousands of people on water and sanitation issues.

Founding Director Amy Hart is an award-winning filmmaker and photographer who specializes in public health and global health issues. She has produced/directed hundreds of hours of long-form videos, and dozens of short videos, commercials and public services announcements on public health issues in the U.S. and Africa where she has filmed in 5 countries. She won four Telly Awards and a USDLA Gold Award for Public Health Live!, an educational series funded by the NYS Department of Health and the CDC that she produced for five years. She shared an Emmy nomination for a production she shot in New Orleans during the aftermath Hurricane Katrina. She received a Fulbright Cultural Exchange Award for her independent film, Water First, as well as an International Jury Award at the World Water Forum. Previously, Hart held staff positions at Miramax Films, Fine Line Features and New Line Cinema. Hart also teaches Public Health Through Film and Fiction at NYU Steinhardt School of Public Health, Culture and Nutrition.
The PHP Production Team is composed of a group of seasoned professionals and newly minted filmmakers from top academic institutions including NYU, Columbia University, Johns Hopkins and Syracuse University S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Veteran cinematographer Mark Smith has shot and produced for ABC, USA, CBS, Turner Broadcasting, PBS and Discovery Channel. Veteran editor Paul Allman has won sixteen Cine Golden Eagle Awards, two Telly awards and a Cine Masters Series award. Emmy Award-winning cinematographer Scott Shelley has filmed in 65 countries for UNICEF and other organizations.
