The New York Academy of Medicine conducted a Health Impact Assessment (HIA) of the East Harlem Neighborhood Plan recommendations to answer the questions: How will the zoning and affordable housing recommendations recommended in the East Harlem Neighborhood Plan impact the health of neighborhood residents?

This HIA is only the second ever conducted in New York City and the first for East Harlem.  A HIA is a process that aims to investigate, reveal and explain the factors linked to upcoming policies, projects, or programs as they relate to health, with a particular focus on how the proposed changes will affect existing inequities and vulnerable populations.
