The New York Academy of Medicine Conference Center is on New York’s Museum Mile, directly across from Central Park’s exquisite Conservatory Gardens and the Museum of the City of New York. The Academy is literally minutes from all metropolitan New York City transportation hubs, including LaGuardia, John F. Kennedy International and Newark Liberty Airports, Grand Central Terminal, Pennsylvania Station and the Port Authority Bus Terminal. The Academy building, constructed in 1926, was funded in large part by a donation from the Carnegie Corporation. It was designed by the architectural firm of York and Sawyer in the “Early Romanesque” style. The lobby floor is made of Levanto marble with mosaic borders and bronze inserts. The walls are of Mankato marble with a stone finish. The ceiling is made of heavy paper textured to resemble wood grain, specifically designed for the Academy.
