The New York Academy of Medicine is pleased to accept donations of appreciated assets such as stocks, bonds or mutual funds. Your tax advantages are maximized if you donate appreciated assets that you have owned for more than one year. You obtain an income tax charitable deduction for the full current market value of the asset, and you avoid the capital gains tax that you would have paid if you sold the asset outright. Electronic transfer of stock shares is the most secure and expedient delivery process available; however, you may also transfer certificates directly. Regardless of the method chosen to deliver a gift of stock, please provide NYAM with the following information for audit and acknowledgment purposes: the donor's name and complete address, and the name and number of securities transferred.
