Please join The New York Academy of Medicine Section on Dermatology for the 2020 Howard Fox Lecture with Adam Friedman, MD, FAAD, titled The Emerging Potential and Pitfalls of Cannabinoids in Dermatology. Dr. Friedman will  summarize the current and expanding field of research on the broad potential uses of cannabinoids in inflammatory and neoplastic diseases of the skin, shed light on emerging pitfalls facing this space, and provide practical pearls on real world utilization.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Adam Friedman, MD, FAAD, is a Professor of Dermatology, Interim Chair of Dermatology and serves as Residency Program Director and Director of Translational Research in the Department of Dermatology at The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. Dr. Friedman completed his undergraduate training at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated with Distinction in Dermatologic Research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He completed his internship at New York Hospital Queens and returned to Einstein for his Dermatology residency, where he was appointed Chief Resident during his final year. Dr. Friedman joined the Einstein faculty after graduation and served as the Director of Dermatologic Research, Director of the Translational Research Fellowship, and the Associate Program Director.

Dr. Friedman’s clinical interests ran the gamut of medical and pediatric dermatology including acne, eczema, psoriasis, skin infections, hair loss, wound healing, urticaria, blistering diseases, lupus, sarcoidosis, and skin cancer to name a few. He has published more than 120 papers and three textbooks on these topics and on his research using nanotechnologies he developed to treat many of these conditions. Dr. Friedman has received multiple awards, including the American Dermatologic Association Young Leader Award, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Cutting Edge Research Award, the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology Leader in Photoprotection Award, and the La Roche Posay North American Foundation Research Award. He has also been voted to New York Times Magazine’s Super Doctors Rising Stars each year since 2013.

Dr. Friedman lectures extensively in both national and international forums and serves on a myriad of committees and advisory boards. He is a dermatology expert for healthguru.com and everydayhealth.com and hosts an online series titled “Ask an Expert." Dr. Friedman has appeared on television news programs such as Good Morning America and Fox News, and has been quoted in numerous leading publications, including WebMD, Health, MSN.com, Vogue, Dr. Oz The Good Life, Good Housekeeping, and Woman’s Day.
