The complex healthcare delivery challenges realized throughout the COVID-19 pandemic have fostered the emergence of healthcare innovations to meet the complex needs of healthcare heroes and the society they valiantly serve.

This panel of experts will provide a glimpse into how healthcare professionals harnessed technology and embraced innovations to support patients, caregivers, colleagues, communities and populations to meet the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Speaker Bios
Rebecca Love, RN, BS, MSN, FIEL, is a nurse entrepreneur, inventor, author, TedX Speaker and first nurse featured on Ted.com, and part of the inaugural nursing panel featured at SXSW 2018. Rebecca was the first Director of Nurse Innovation & Entrepreneurship in the United States at Northeastern School of Nursing – the founding initiative in the country designed to empower nurses as innovators and entrepreneurs, where she founded the Nurse Hackathon. The movement has led to transformational change in the Nursing Profession. In early 2019, Rebecca, along with a group of leading nurses in the world, founded and is President of SONSIEL: The Society of Nurse Scientists, Innovators, Entrepreneurs & Leaders, a non-profit that quickly attained recognition by the United Nations as an Affiliate Member to the UN. Rebecca is an experienced nurse entrepreneur; in 2013 she founded HireNurses.com, which was acquired in 2018 by Ryalto, LTD UK, where she served as the Managing Director of U.S. Markets  until its acquisition in 2019. Currently, Rebecca serves as Vice President of Customer Strategy & Engagement at OptimizeRx. Rebecca is passionate about empowering nurses and creating communities to help nurses innovate, create and collaborate to start businesses and inventions to transform healthcare.   

Kistein Monkhouse, MPA, is the CEO and founder of Patient Orator, a digital health startup that is using a mobile app to help underserved patients document their medical symptoms to empower their voices in their healthcare experience. She is a nationally recognized patient advocate and former healthcare frontline staff who saw an urgent need to build bridges across communities in healthcare. She is an award-winning documentarian of the documentary Humanizing Health Care, a narrative-driven emotionally paced film about healthcare experiences in the United States. Monkhouse places equity, diversity, and inclusion at the heart of her work, and it is her top priority to ensure everyone is well-informed on how to navigate the healthcare system. Her experience in the industry positions her perfectly to pave the way for a nation of informed individuals and eventually humanize healthcare in the United States. 

Kelly O’Neill, MSN, RN, began her nursing career at St. Luke’s in 2009 as a staff nurse. Her interest in informatics began as a nursing champion during an EMR upgrade and continued in 2016, throughout the Epic implementation at Mount Sinai Morningside. Kelly became Mount Sinai Morningside’s Nurse Informatics Manager in 2018. She received both her BSN and her MSN in Executive Nursing Leadership from Felician University.  

Nicholas Soulakis, PhD, is a public health scientist whose research focus lies at the intersection of epidemiology and informatics with an emphasis on understanding the expanding, data-rich environment created by health information technology and leveraging computationally intensive analytical techniques to monitor healthcare quality and ultimately improve population health outcomes. His current work is an expansion into the newly emerging field of quality informatics and patient outcomes; seeking to better understand the ascertainment of healthcare networks and developing a more comprehensive scientific approach to understanding the dynamics of care coordination for hospitalized patient populations. Dr. Soulakis also maintains an active research program in public health informatics, especially tracking emerging trends in community health using temporal and spatial surveillance methods, identifying new and novel methods of data collection and processing of electronic health record data, and examining electronic exchange of health information between healthcare providers and public health agencies. His work is currently funded through the National Library of Medicine and has been published in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association, American Journal of Public Health, and Emerging Infectious Diseases.

Mikhail Varshavski, DO, commonly known as "Doctor Mike," is a multifaceted board-certified family medicine physician, media personality, educator, writer, and philanthropist. Emigrating with from Russia to New York at the age of 6, Doctor Mike grew up to pursue his medical degree at the New York Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Life Sciences and a Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine with honors by the age of 24. During his residency, Doctor Mike decided to document his journey and share his medical learnings with the internet. Over the next few years, he garnered 430+ million views, making his platform one of the largest in health education. Leveraging his media presence and impact in the medical community, he covers the importance of health literacy while simultaneously battling misinformation in a practical yet entertaining approach. Doctor Mike’s wildly popular YouTube channel landed him recurring features on network TV programs like Good Morning America, Live with Kelly and Ryan, Rachael Ray, and The Doctors. Doctor Mike regularly contributes to esteemed publications including Women’s Health, Men's Health, Reader's Digest, American Academy of Family Physicians Blog, and MedPageToday. He has further established himself in the field of digital healthcare and medicine, presenting seminars and lectures for the TEDx Conference, Mayo Clinic, and many more. In 2015, Doctor Mike expanded his outreach when he launched his charity, The Limitless Tomorrow Foundation, an organization that seeks to financially support and give back to students in need. Additionally, Doctor Mike has strong ties with several other philanthropic organizations including Stand Up 2 Cancer, AmeriCares, and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Today, Doctor Mike is one of the most influential medical educators in the digital era.
