After major wins in the New York State budget, DASH-NY has new opportunities for our policy priorities, including expanding access to indoor and outdoor spaces for physical activity recreation statewide. In a new environmental justice program, the budget allocates $7 million to ensure access to parks, trails, and outdoor recreation for all New Yorkers.

In addition, groups around the state are mobilizing around a simple rule change that would allow after-school programs to use school facilities without restrictive barriers, like needing all wall art laminated and five feet apart.

This one-hour webinar will discuss how these two initiatives can build equitable access to physical exercise opportunities, highlighting how we can collectively support the adoption of shared use policy and access funding for environmental justice projects.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the need for shared use policy for after-school programs
  2. Identify actions needed to support the adoption of shared use policy
  3. Learn about the environmental justice budget item & how organizations can access that funding

Presenters:

Alli Lidie – Deputy Director at the New York State Network for Youth Success,

Greg Francese – Project Coordinator at Parks & Trails New York

James Meerdink – Project Director at Parks & Trails New York
