Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Like our nation, New York spends a high proportion of the economy on health care yet health outcomes and equity remain below where they should be. Governor Kathy Hochul continues to make important moves across the state in addressing the inequities that impede improved health for all New Yorkers, and NYAM is pleased to be part of this critical work.

Last week the Governor announced a new initiative—the New York State Commission on the Future of Health Care—and I am pleased to have been appointed by the governor to this commission and to join 12 esteemed colleagues on this effort to fulfill her State of the State commitment to ensure accessible, equitable, high-quality healthcare for all New Yorkers.

“This is a transitional moment for the health care system. Patient preferences are shifting, new technologies are emerging, and we are still feeling the ripple effects of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Governor Hochul said. “I have assembled this Commission—with some of the top health care experts in the country—to help us build a resilient health care system that leads the nation and delivers every New Yorker the care they deserve.”

We are pleased to join this leading movement for New York State. The full press release can be viewed here.

In the post-pandemic era, and as we work to address health inequity and support health system resilience in the face of ongoing climate change, there is a great deal to do. NYAM is dedicated to this crucial work on the city, state, federal, and global level.

Thank you for your engagement, and be well.
