This year we’re celebrating our milestone 175th Anniversary! Since our founding in 1847, NYAM has made unprecedented contributions to advancing public health in New York and beyond. We hold true to that commitment today, with a reinvigorated health equity mission and long-term vision to ensure everyone has the opportunity to live a healthy life.

But 2022 is also a big year for all of us. With optimism, we hope it will be the year we see the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, a year of social and political healing and better health, and a year of big systems change to move equity forward.

You’ll hear this from us a lot this year as we not only look back on our 175-year legacy of leadership in health, but also move boldly forward to advance equity in new and innovative ways. We’ll do this important work in collaboration with many of our partners reading this letter today.

Visit our interactive timeline, available in English and Spanish, to learn about key milestones of NYAM’s history and significant contributions to public health. These include NYAM’s role in establishing NYC public health systems and making advancements in maternal and child health, healthy aging, drug policy and other critical health issues.

This year we’ll launch a new event series, Then & Now, to highlight historical and modern-day progress on critical health issues. We’ll also extend our popular Around the Table series featuring data-driven solutions to health equity issues.
