ABSTRACT
This brief, two-page primer explains why public deliberation is such a powerful tool for exploring community health issues, how an effective deliberation can be accomplished, and what type of results a convener might anticipate.

For a detailed example and the results of a specific public deliberation, see the study: "Community Priorities for Hospital-Based Prevention Initiatives: Results From a Deliberating Public," published in the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice.
